Running the Troubleshooter for Windows Updates

1. On the Start menu, click the cogwheel icon to open the Settings window.
2. Proceed to Update & Security, and then navigate to Troubleshoot.
3. On the troubleshooting wizard. Click on Windows Update and then select Next to start the service.
4. After the system scan, it will prompt a troubleshooting report and it will show whether the issue has been fixed automatically.
5. Lastly restart the PC and try running Windows Updates again to see if the error has been fixed.
Perform SFC and DISM check
Corrupted files can be the reason behind the error. To fix this, you can perform an SFC and DISM check.
Step 1: Open the command prompt by hitting Windows Key and X on your keyboard. Select either Command Prompt (Admin) or PowerShell (Admin) on the list provided, whichever is possible.
Step 2: Run the sfc/scannow command by typing and entering it in the command prompt.
Step 3: Hit enter to start the scan, which usually takes 10 to 15 minutes. When it is done, see if the issue has been resolved.
